About the tonies Toniebox Lite Sleepy Set with Sleepy Duck Tonie
The Toniebox Lite Sleepy Set combines tonies' smallest audio player, the Toniebox Lite, with the Sleepy Duck Tonie, a bedtime soundscape that runs for more than 120 minutes. Sleepy Duck plays soft melodies mixed with nature sounds such as gentle waves, summer rain and rustling trees, designed to help children wind down and fall asleep.
The Toniebox Lite is a screen-free audio player for ages 1-12+. Kids place a Tonie on top to start listening, squeeze the ears to change the volume, and tap or tilt the box to skip, fast-forward or rewind. A sleep timer gradually lowers the volume before the box switches off; kids can start it by squeezing both ears, and parents can set it in the tonies app. The Lite plays all Tonies (sold separately), but it does not work with Tonieplay games and has no light ring or sunrise alarm, which are Toniebox 2 features.
At about 3.9 x 3.9 x 4.1 inches including the ears and roughly 11 oz, the Lite is sized for small hands and backpacks. It has a hard plastic shell with flexible ears, and squishy silicone covers in several colors are sold separately. Battery life is up to 6 hours, according to tonies. It works with wired headphones and tonies Bluetooth Headphones.
Setup needs the free tonies app, a tonies account and Wi-Fi. Wi-Fi is also needed the first time each new Tonie is played; after that, its audio is stored on the box and plays offline, which suits car trips and sleepovers.
In the box: Toniebox Lite and the Sleepy Duck Tonie. The Lite charges over USB-C, but tonies does not include a charging cable, so a certified USB-C cable and power supply are needed.
What reviewers say
Cubby, The Everymom and Good Housekeeping all tested or compared the Toniebox Lite (Cubby and The Everymom used the My Story Set, not this Sleepy Set). Cubby says the Lite earned "hero status" after a road trip, frequent drops and daily use by two boys, fits a 3-year-old's hands better than the Toniebox 2 and slips into backpacks; Wi-Fi setup takes a few minutes. The Everymom set it up in under five minutes, found the sound slightly clearer than the original Toniebox and liked the sleep timer with audio fade. Good Housekeeping calls it especially good for kids under 5 and more portable, though less toy-like than the Toniebox 2, which has more storage and a fuller-range speaker. Cubby and The Everymom both suggest a silicone cover, since the hard shell lacks the padding of other Tonieboxes, and all three note it can't play Tonieplay games.
Pros
- Small and light enough for toddlers to carry and to pack in a backpack
- Plays the full range of Tonies figures
- Quick setup in the tonies app
- Sleep timer with gradual audio fade
- Held up to a road trip and frequent drops in Cubby's test
Cons
- Hard shell has less padding; reviewers suggest a separately sold cover
- No Tonieplay games, light ring or sunrise alarm
- Less storage and a less full-range speaker than the Toniebox 2 (Good Housekeeping)
- Charging cable not included (The Everymom)
- Wi-Fi needed for setup and to download each new Tonie (Cubby)
