About the Razor Dirt Rocket MX350 Electric Dirt Bike for Kids
The Razor Dirt Rocket MX350 is a scaled-down electric dirt bike for young riders. It has authentic motocross frame geometry, a steel frame and double-crown steel fork, shatter-resistant plastic fairings and 12-inch spoked wheels with pneumatic tires for off-road riding.
A high-torque, chain-driven rear-wheel-drive motor is controlled with a twist-grip throttle, and a hand-operated rear brake handles stopping. A parent-controlled high/low speed switch sits behind a cover that needs a Phillips screwdriver to open. High, the factory default, allows speeds up to 14 mph (22 km/h); Low limits the bike to up to 10 mph (16 km/h). Razor's minimum rider age is 8+ in Low Speed Mode and 13+ in High Speed Mode, and the maximum rider weight is 140 lb (64 kg). Razor notes that not every child of the recommended age will be suited to the bike, and adult supervision is needed.
Power comes from a 24V (two 12V) sealed lead-acid rechargeable battery system. Run time is up to 60 minutes of continuous riding in Low Speed Mode or up to 30 minutes in High Speed Mode. The first charge takes 12 hours and recharging takes up to 12 hours; Razor advises charging right after each ride and not charging for more than 24 hours.
Other features include adjustable-angle riser handlebars, soft rubber grips, folding metal foot pegs and a retractable kickstand. The bike weighs 48.26 lb and measures 43.7 x 28 x 21.7 inches assembled. Its electrical system is certified compliant with UL 2272.
Some assembly is required; Razor allows up to 15 minutes and recommends adult assembly. Included: battery charger, tools, handlebar clamps and owner's manual. Razor recommends a helmet, elbow pads and knee pads on every ride, and riders should check local laws on where it can be used.
What reviewers say
Gear Diary tested the dual-speed MX350 with two children and called it an excellent entry-level electric dirt bike. The reviewer found it easy for kids to learn and handle, even without previous experience on a motorized bike, and liked the classic dirt bike look, the small footprint for garage storage, the adjustable handlebars and the fold-up foot pegs, adding that the 14 mph top speed keeps power manageable for young riders. The main drawbacks were the short run time and long recharge, which take planning when several kids share the bike, the lack of suspension (the pneumatic tires only soften small bumps) and no built-in rearview mirror.
Pros
- Easy for beginners to learn and handle (Gear Diary)
- Speed and power suited to young riders, with a parent-set low mode
- Classic dirt bike look
- Adjustable handlebars and fold-up foot pegs
- Small footprint that's easy to store
Cons
- Short run time and a long recharge of up to 12 hours
- No suspension; the pneumatic tires only soften small bumps
- No built-in rearview mirror
