About the tonies Toniebox 2 Starter Set with Creative-Tonie Rubie, Tropical Teal
This starter set pairs the Toniebox 2 in Tropical Teal with Rubie, a Creative-Tonie that holds up to 90 minutes of your own recordings. The Toniebox 2 is a screen-free audio player for kids: they place a Tonie figure on top to play its songs and stories, squeeze the ears to change the volume, and tap or tilt the box to skip forward or back. tonies designs it for ages 1-12+, and a 1+ mode limits some features for the youngest listeners.
Rubie comes with a short story to get started. Family members can then record stories and messages, or upload audio, through the tonies app or a computer, up to 90 minutes in total. The Toniebox 2 also plays every other Tonie (sold separately) and works with Tonieplay, screen-free audio games and quizzes that need a Tonieplay game and controller, also sold separately.
Bedtime features set in the app include a Sleep Timer with Light that fades out the sound and glow, and a Sunrise Alarm with a gentle glow and wake-up tunes. A light ring around the top glows during play and gives cues in Tonieplay games. The soft, wipeable fabric shell is built to handle drops.
The rechargeable, replaceable battery lasts up to 9 hours, according to tonies, and recharges over USB-C in about 3 hours; 10 minutes of charging gives up to 45 minutes of play. There is no 3.5mm headphone jack: it works with tonies Bluetooth Headphones and compatible USB-C wired headphones.
Setup needs the free tonies app, a tonies account and Wi-Fi. Wi-Fi is also needed the first time each Tonie is played; after that, its audio is stored on the box for offline listening.

What reviewers say
Today's Parent and Mumsnet both tested the Toniebox 2 (in other bundles, not this Rubie set) and recommend it. Today's Parent found it easy enough for an almost 2-year-old to use alone, set it up in about five minutes, and said Tonieplay games re-engaged a 5-year-old who had outgrown the original box. Mumsnet, which tested it for a month with a 5- and an 8-year-old, praised the sound quality, robust build, USB-C charging, sunrise alarm, night light and app remote controls, and called Creative-Tonie recordings from grandparents a standout. On the downside, Today's Parent found it bulky for travel, missed a wired headphone jack and said the bedtime features took time to figure out; Mumsnet found tilting to skip fiddly, the included cable very short and the Tonieplay game selection limited.
