About the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8
The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra is Samsung's large book-style foldable for 2026 and the successor to the Galaxy Z Fold7. Closed, it works as a regular phone with a 6.5-inch cover screen. Open, it has an 8.0-inch, nearly square Dynamic AMOLED 2X main display (2504 x 2256) for split-screen work, with an anti-reflective coating and up to 3,000 nits peak brightness. Both screens run at 1–120Hz. Samsung's Flex Titanium display structure makes the crease less visible, and the hinge holds the phone partly open for Flex Mode. It is 8.9 mm thick folded, 4.1 mm open, and weighs 215 g.
It runs Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, on Android 17 with One UI 9 and Galaxy AI, with seven years of Android and security updates. The 5,000mAh battery, up from 4,400mAh in the Z Fold7, supports 45W wired charging (up to 67% in about 30 minutes with a 45W adapter, sold separately), 20W wireless charging and Wireless PowerShare.
On the back are a 200MP main camera (f/1.7, OIS), a 50MP ultra-wide that also takes macro shots, and a 10MP 3x telephoto with OIS, with up to 30x Space Zoom. It records 8K video at 30fps and supports Samsung's APV codec. Each screen has a 10MP selfie camera. The phone is rated IP48 and has an Armor Aluminum frame, Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3 on the cover screen and Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on the back. The S Pen is not supported, and the box includes a USB-C cable but no charger.
What reviewers say
Reviewers call the Z Fold8 Ultra Samsung's most complete book-style foldable but a costly, incremental update on the Z Fold7. TechRadar and The Guardian praised the flatter main screen, much less visible crease and anti-reflective coating; The Guardian got about two days per charge and TechRadar 12.5 hours of mixed use. SamMobile and GSMArena welcomed the 5,000mAh battery and 45W charging, and The Verge said the bigger battery alone justifies the $100 price rise. Criticisms: the 10MP 3x telephoto (Android Central, The Guardian, SamMobile), wobble on a desk from the corner camera bump, IP48 rather than full dust protection, no S Pen or built-in Qi2 magnets, and weaker speakers (GSMArena, SamMobile). Android Central said the $2,099 price makes it hard to recommend.
Pros
- Flatter main screen with a much less visible crease and an anti-reflective coating that helps outdoors
- Battery lasts a full day of heavy use and into a second day with lighter use; 45W wired charging
- 200MP main camera and new 50MP ultra-wide take detailed photos; 8K video with APV codec
- Thin and light when closed (8.9 mm, 215 g), with a cover screen wide enough to use as a regular phone
Cons
- 10MP 3x telephoto trails rival flagships, and zoom shots past 10x lose detail
- IP48 rating gives limited dust protection; no S Pen support or built-in Qi2 magnets
- Corner camera bump makes it wobble on a desk; speakers sound worse than on earlier Folds
