About the Amazon Kindle Paperwhite 16GB with 7-inch Display
The Amazon Kindle Paperwhite is a dedicated e-reader built around a 7-inch glare-free E Ink touchscreen that stays easy to read even in direct sunlight. It's made for reading alone, with no apps competing for your attention. You can adjust both brightness and warm light to suit bright days or late nights, and set the text size and boldness to whatever is easiest on your eyes.
Amazon says this model turns pages and scrolls through your library faster than before. Battery life is rated at up to 12 weeks on a single USB-C charge. The thin, light design weighs 7.4 oz and is waterproof, so poolside or bathtub reading isn't a worry.
With 16 GB of storage and Wi-Fi for downloading titles from the Kindle Store, it's a good fit for regular readers, commuters and travelers who want a comfortable, long-lasting way to carry a whole library.
What reviewers say
Reviewers like the newer Paperwhite's larger, higher-contrast 7-inch screen, quicker page turns and excellent battery life, and see it as an easy pick for a first e-reader or for replacing an older Kindle. The downsides they mention are a fairly plain design for the price, lock-screen ads on the standard version unless you pay extra, and only modest gains if you already own a recent Paperwhite.
Pros
- Quicker, smoother page turns
- Larger 7-inch screen with sharp, high-contrast text
- Excellent battery life
- Waterproof and comfortable to hold
Cons
- Design feels plain for the price
- Lock-screen ads unless you pay for the ad-free version
- Only a small upgrade over the previous Paperwhite
