About the Longines HydroConquest GMT Automatic Men's Dive Watch, 41mm, Blue Dial, Blue Ceramic Bezel, Rubber Strap (L3.790.4.96.9)
The Longines HydroConquest GMT (reference L3.790.4.96.9) adds a second time zone to Longines' HydroConquest dive watch. It combines a 41mm stainless steel case, a sunray blue dial, a blue ceramic dive bezel and a blue rubber strap, ready for travel and time in the water.
It works as a traveller's GMT. When you arrive somewhere new, you move the local hour hand on its own with the crown, while the arrow-tipped 24-hour hand keeps home time on the 24-hour scale around the dial. A date window sits at 3 o'clock.
Inside is Longines' exclusive automatic calibre L844. It beats at 25,200 vibrations per hour and stores up to 72 hours of power, and its silicon balance spring and anti-magnetic parts help it resist the magnetic fields of daily life.
The screw-down crown and caseback give it 300 meters (30 bar) of water resistance. The unidirectional bezel has a polished blue ceramic insert with a 60-minute dive scale and a luminous pip, Super-LumiNova on the markers and hands keeps it readable in the dark, and the sapphire crystal has anti-reflective coating on both sides.
The case is 12.9mm thick with 21mm lugs and measures just under 50mm from lug to lug. The blue rubber strap closes with a double-security folding clasp with a micro-adjustment system, so you can fine-tune the fit.
What reviewers say
Expert reviews are positive with some reservations. Monochrome's hands-on with the blue and green versions found the mostly brushed 41mm case very solid and the sunray dial detailed and handsome, and called the true traveller GMT, 72-hour reserve and 300m rating a strong package that looks great and feels comfortable on the wrist. Its one dial gripe: the blue version uses a white date disc rather than a matching blue one. Worn & Wound called it delightfully odd: the shape-based hour markers give it personality and it never feels overbearing. The reviewer found the polished crown and bezel edge slippery to grip, noted some bezel play and slack when setting the local hour, found the small 24-hour scale harder to read, and wished the fit and finish were a little more refined. We found no owner ratings for this reference.
Pros
- True traveller GMT with an independently adjustable local hour hand
- Solid, mostly brushed 41mm case with 300m water resistance
- 72-hour power reserve from a silicon-sprung, magnetism-resistant movement
- Handsome sunray dial with plenty of detail and character
- Comfortable on the wrist despite its tool-watch build
Cons
- Blue version uses a white date disc rather than a color-matched one
- Polished crown and bezel edge can be hard to grip
- Some bezel play and slack when setting the local hour hand (Worn & Wound)
- Small 24-hour scale makes the GMT hand harder to read
- 12.9mm thickness makes it wear broad and flat
