About the Solo Stove Pi Prime Propane Pizza Oven
Pi Prime is Solo Stove's gas-powered outdoor pizza oven, designed to be simple enough for a first-time pizza maker. It runs on propane, so there is no wood or pellet fire to manage. Solo Stove says it heats up in about 15 minutes and can bake a pizza in as little as 90 seconds.
A wide, panoramic opening makes it easier to keep an eye on your pie and turn it while it cooks. The oven is built from 304 stainless steel, chosen to stand up to outdoor use and to wipe clean easily.
It suits backyard cooks who want pizza nights at home without the learning curve of a wood-fired oven, as well as more experienced pizza makers who like the convenience of gas.
What reviewers say
Tom's Guide found the Pi Prime one of the easiest pizza ovens for beginners: setup takes minutes, the front-mounted knob lights reliably and makes the flame easy to control, and it got hot enough to turn out well-charred Neapolitan-style pizzas in around 90 seconds. The reviewer's main gripe was a short propane hose; they also preheated for 20-30 minutes to get the stone fully hot, and like most compact ovens it needs a turning peel and close attention because pizzas can burn quickly.
Pros
- Very easy to set up and use
- Simple front-mounted control with a built-in igniter
- Gets very hot for fast, well-charred pizzas
- Also handled steaks and vegetables well in a cast-iron pan
Cons
- Propane hose could be longer
- Pizzas need turning mid-bake and can burn quickly
- Gas-only, with room for about a 12-inch pizza
